Honorable Joseph Mbilinyi (SUGU) member of parliament from Mbeya city via CHADEMA has said he can't agree with the proposal from the special advisory committee from Mbeya regional to name the new SONGWE airport with the name of Tanzanian president his hon Jakaya Kikwete.
When he was talking to TANZANIA DAIMA in Dar es salaam city, Mbilinyi who is popular in the name of Sugu said this proposal is from the people who want to be close to the country leader Dr. Jakaya Kikwete instead of thinking to advertise their city (MBEYA) international wise.
He added Mbeya regional has the history to want to advertise itself internationally and this airport might be one of their opportunity to do so and to achieve their long awaited dream to come true.
"I can't agree for the airport to be called in the president's name JAKAYA KIKWETE, we need the name which will make our regional to be known internationally. The regional special committee under Mbeya District Council (DC) Norman Sigala was made an immediate decision to bring that proposal without communicating with members of Parliament from all districts in Mbeya regional", he said.
He added that this step Norman made does not represent the ideas of Mbeya citizens but instead it represents the idea of the person appointed thus if they were the representatives selected by the citizens they can not bring such a proposal.
Mbilinyi's word were supported by other members of parliament in the regional, where Lukson Mwanjale MP from Mbeya rural (CCM) he said he is very disappointed by the committee who brought this proposal without the participation of citizens in that matter.
The proposal to name the SONGE airport with the president's name Jakaya Kikwete it gets more challenges where before that two political parties NCCR MAGEUZI and PPT MAENDELEO via their regional leaders opposed that proposal.
