April 20, 2013 - President Uhuru Kenyatta in law, Henry Ochwada
has died at a Kisumu Hospital following a bout illness.
Ochwada, who was an Assistant Minister during the late Mzee Kenyatta’s
administration, died on Friday evening after a long battle with high blood
pressure and diabetes
Mr Ochwada, 87, served as MP for Busia Central (present day
Funyula) constituency between 1969 and 1974, and was husband to Lucy Nyokabi, a
daughter of the President’s half-brother, the late Peter Muigai Kenyatta.
Ochwada, was a pioneer trade unionist alongside the late Justice
Minister Tom Mboya, from where he rose to become a close confidant of late Mzee
Kenyatta, and in the process, married Nyokabi as his second wife in the 1960’s.
Our sincerely condolences pass to the Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family may our almighty God give this family strength in this hard situation.
