Type of marijuana plant that has encouraged in the parliament that it should be included in the law as the cash crop in the country so that the society can benefit from it
Nkasi MP, Ally Keissy (CCM) yesterday wanted the government to allow marijuana to be declared as the legitimate cash crop so as to benefit the country and its citizens from its trade.
Keissy made that statement through his additional question when he said tobacco crop in the country does not mean more than marijuana .
"I don't see any reason for the country to continue producing tobacco which even the whole world ignore it for it contains cancer. Today the government has to make a statement to clarify when the Marijuana cultivation will be allowed as the cash crop cultivation so as the citizens to produce it freely without any restrictions and to benifit from it" he asked.
He said there is more advantage in cultivate marijuana than continuing to cultivated tobacco which other people have found it to be not very efficient.
In his primary question, MP Mpanda Rural, Solomon Kakoso (CCM), wanted to know when the tobacco crop will be inserted on government subsidies so as to reduce the cost of inputs for crop farmers.
The MP also wanted to know when the Government's commitment to reduce the tax from five percent to two percent will be implemented.
Responding to these questions together, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Food and Cooperatives, Hon Adam Malima said that tobacco crop is a crop which puts foreign income than other cash crops, but has no input subsidies as with other crops.
He said not getting subsidies for this crop, it's due to the budget constraints and the ability of this crop to defend itself.
About marijuana, he said "Tanzania has not been able to legalize marijuana crop, then it is not visible to Compare it with tobacco which have seen the quality of Market in Tanzania up to China."
